It has always been the public opinion that a fast food nation is a fat one. Even if it's not the fat nation, people will link it with poor health. With movies such as 'Fast Food Nation' and 'Supersize Me', it's not that hard to imagine.*crap it sounds like a samsung commercial!*
But, is it really all that bad? Why is it that whenever we look at a someone who eats at the Mac's, we'd think that they're the kind that eats upsized big mac meals 3 times a day and goes for fast food everyday? Does this symbolise a majority of people who eat fast food? Or is this what the media exaggerated to be? Must we abstain from fast food to stay healthy?
Personally, I actually think that it is possible to enjoy your big macs, or even mega macs (available in neighboring Malaysia!!!). You just have to eat them right. Here are some of Bruce's near-divine words of advice:
I. Limit your order to 2 sentences at the counter - Just walk to the counter and place your order. The idea is for you to not get tempted into ordering an extra mudpie, apple pie or whatever. Just place your order in one sentence, and leave the next sentence for adjustments such as your preference of beverage.
II. Greed is not Good - Very often, a set meal from these fast food joints are sufficient to meet your nutritional requirements. The problem is that these meals often fail to fill your tummy and you get tempted to make an upsize and stuff. Order one item and stick to that item!
III. FIZZ OFF - Simply request to change the drink to a non-fizzy one. Soft drinks often contain tons of sugar that will end up in your body unused. Plus, non-fizzy drinks don't give you hiccups!
IV. Don't just sit there - Do yourself a little favour and get some exercise. At least burn off some of the calories my friend! Even walking to the fast food joint is some exercise.
V. Choose the right stuff - Apparently there are fast food items that take forever to breakdown if left alone. Stay away from them cuz they'll probably give you liver problems over a long time.
There you go! My 5 Commandments!
Here are some recommendations on which fast food restaurant to go for if you're feeling like mixing items (stupidly expensive but it's your money).
Fries - Long John Silvers And Popeyes have the best tasting fries. Fluffy and crispy... Yummm... Burger King has the healthiest fries but the worst tasting one of all, no butter in it at all.
Burgers - Burger King wins the Golden Arches any time. At least their meat tastes like meat. Patties from Mac, tastes like 100% beef! You have the skin, eyes, bones, cartilage, fat.....
Chicken - Popeyes for sure! But due to the little numbers in Singapore (one at the airport and one at the Singapore Flyer), you're better off taking some from KFC.
Ice Cream - Mac has the best ice cream you can find around. just try not to overdo the intake and you should stay in shape.
